Dell EMC VMAX3 250F

The VMAX3 arrays offer enterprise storage, scaled performance, and the capacity to support high-demand online transaction processing, analytical processing and big data applications.

The VMAX3 arrays are pedabyte-level storage, which can store up to 720 high-density drives with the VMAX 3 engine in a single frame that performs at 1.7M IOPS.

VMAX 250F and VMAX 950F are the two new VMAX3 offerings. The IOPs are over 1 million to 6.7 million between the 2 models, with 1 to 4PB of effective maximum capacity between the two models.

Dell EMC VNX8000

The VNX8000 is designed for the enterprise space by replacing and expanding the capacity of the Gen 1 VNX7500. This model supports block, file, and unified configurations, and utilizes a storage processor enclosure (SPE) chassis.

The SPs in this model use dual socket, 2.7 GHz, eight-core Xeon E5 processors with 128GB of RAM, supporting a maximum of 1,500 drives with the following host connectivity options: FC, iSCSI, and FCoE. Since this model uses an SPE and contains no drives, the VNX Operating Environment boots from the first four drives (Vault drives) on the first DAE (bus 0 enclosure 0). The VNX8000’ SPEs use UltraFlex I/O slots for all connectivity. The management system utilized is Unisphere.

FAST VP functionality is enhanced on the VNX2 series and is available for both block and file data. FAST VP optimizes storage utilization by automatically moving data between storage tiers (for example, Flash, SAS, and NL-SAS). Data also moves within tiers. The VNX8000 has a FASTcache capacity of 4.8TB.

The VNX8000 supports Raid Levels 0, 1, 1+0, 3, 5 and 6. The maximum number of pools is 60, LUN (Pool) is 4,000 with a maximum number of 8192 LUNS, and a pool size of 512TB.

Dell EMC VNX7600

The VNX7600 is designed for the high-end, mid-capacity space and replaced the Gen 1 VNX7500. This model supports block, file and unified configurations, and utilizes a DPE chassis.

The SPs in this model use a 2.2 GHz, eight-core Xeon E5 processor with 64GB of RAM, supporting a maximum of 1000 drives with the following host connectivity options: FC, iSCSI, and FCoE.

This model uses a DPE available in a 25 x 2.5” drive form factor. The VNX Operating Environment boots from the first four drives on the DPE, known as Vault drives. The VNX7600 has a DPE that uses UltraFlex I/O slots for all connectivity. The management system utilized is Unisphere.

Dell EMC VNX7500

Each SP in the VNX7500 utilizes a 2.8 GHz Xeon 5600 6-core processor with either 24 or 48GB RAM per blade and supports a maximum of 1000 drives, or 2,970 TB raw. The blades use a 2.8 GHx 6-core Xeon 5600 processor with 24GB RAM per blade and with a max capacity of 256TB per blade. The management system utilized is Unisphere.

The VNX7500 supports Raid Levels 0, 1, 1+0, 3, 5, and 6. The maximum number of pools is 60, with a maximum number of 8,192 LUNS, 16TB LUN size.

The VNX series features FASTCache. FASTCache leverages the lower response time and better IOPS of flash drives without dedicating Flash drives to specific applications. FASTCache addresses a hot spot anywhere in the array improving application performance especially for workloads with frequent and unpredictable large increases in I/O activity for an improved Total Cost of Ownership.

FASTCache useable is calculated with Raid 10. The 7500 has a max of useable of 2.1TB using 42 x 100GB SSD drives or 2TB using 20 x 200GB SSD drives.
